The Senate is expected to see the signing of military agreement with Chinese-linked telco firm Dito Telecommunity Corp. in their budget deliberations on the 2020 national budget.
According to Senator Francis Pangilinan, the agreement is worrying because none other than the heads of the Department of National Defense and the National Security Agency have warned against the growing presence of Chinese nationals in the country.
The senator insists that military officials speak differently than others, and the senate wants to know what the military direction is.
Moreover, it is feared that China may have to say that they have access to information in the Philippines.
He said Huawei had been banned from other countries due to national security concerns, such as Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific, which China had ordered to give its employees a list of pro-democracy protests.
He added that he would discuss the issue in the Senate hearings related to the DND budget and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
