Spain's Ricky Rubio has been named Most Valuable Player after beating Argentina and winning the 2019 FIBA World Cup championship with a score of 95-75.
Rubio led Spain in the final match with 20 points and three assists.
This is the first time Spain has lost the championship again in 13 years.
The Spaniards did not even form the Argentinians since the beginning of the war did not appear to be theirs alone. The team's defense against the 2004 Olympic champions was also strong.
Spain's win this 2019 is the second time they have won the tournament within Asia after defeating Greece in Saitama, Japan in 2006.
For the first time since 2006 Spain will again compete in the FIBA World Cup finals after defeating Australia in the semifinal round double-overtime game that ended 95-88. Spain had to chase after only Australia in the big part of the game.
Thanks to Toronto Raptors Center Marc Gasol's two freethrows in the final seconds of the first overtime, Spain forced a double-OT.
Gasol's points were extremely helpful in extra-frame games including seven in the first OT and four in the second. Gasol recorded 33 points with 11-for-19 shooting, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks.
Sergio Llull's two 3-pointers were also critical in the double-OT game which helped the win to Spain. Patty Mills led Australia with 32 points. It may be recalled that Gasol won the NBA title a few months ago with the Raptors.
